This homemade pumpkin cream cold foam is a quick and easy recipe that turns a regular cup of coffee into a cozy, fall-inspired treat. Made with real pumpkin puree and warm spices, it’s ready in under 5 minutes with no special equipment required.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) heavy cream or heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons (30 grams) pumpkin puree (100% pure, not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 ml) maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon (2.5 ml) vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon (1 gram) pumpkin pie spice
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup (240 ml) strong brewed coffee or espresso, chilled
  • Ice as needed
  • Optional: Sweetener for the coffee (e.g., maple syrup or vanilla syrup)

Instructions

  1. Brew and chill your coffee. If using hot coffee, let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl or jar, combine ¼ cup heavy cream, ¼ cup whole milk, 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree, 1 to 2 tablespoons maple syrup, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, and a pinch of salt. Ensure all ingredients are cold.
  3. Whisk or froth until thick. Using a handheld frother, blend for 20 to 30 seconds until doubled in volume and thick enough to hold soft peaks. If whisking by hand, whisk vigorously for 2 to 3 minutes until the mixture leaves a ribbon-like trail.
  4. Check the consistency. The foam should be thick but still pourable. If too runny, froth for another 10 seconds. If too stiff, add a splash of milk and gently stir.
  5. Fill a serving glass with ice almost to the top, leaving about an inch of space.
  6. Slowly pour 1 cup of chilled coffee over the ice, leaving about 2 inches of space at the top.
  7. Gently spoon or pour the pumpkin cream foam over the back of a spoon onto the coffee to help it float. Start in the center and let it spread naturally.
  8. Optional: Garnish with a pinch of pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. Add a straw if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use cold dairy and 100% pure pumpkin puree. The foam is best within 10-15 minutes of frothing. For a dairy-free version, substitute heavy cream with full-fat coconut cream and whole milk with oat milk. To make your own pumpkin pie spice, mix 1 tablespoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ginger, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, ½ teaspoon allspice, and ¼ teaspoon cloves.
