Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large ripe banana, sliced and frozen
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries, unsweetened
  • 1 scoop vanilla or unflavored protein powder
  • ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • Fresh strawberries, sliced (for topping)
  • Banana slices (for topping)
  • Granola (for topping)
  • Coconut flakes (for topping)
  • Nut butter, such as almond or peanut butter (for topping)
  • Hemp seeds or bee pollen (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prep your fruit ahead of time: Peel the ripe banana, slice it into coins, and lay them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 2 hours, then transfer to a freezer bag. Do the same with fresh strawberries if freezing them yourself.
  2. Add liquids first to your blender: Pour in the almond milk and add the Greek yogurt.
  3. Add your protein powder and chia seeds: Sprinkle them over the liquid so they start dissolving slightly.
  4. Add your frozen fruit: Drop in the frozen banana slices and frozen strawberries. If your blender struggles, let it sit for 3-4 minutes to soften slightly.
  5. Blend on low speed first: Start at the lowest setting and gradually increase to high. Use a tamper to push ingredients down into the blades.
  6. Blend until smooth and creamy: The consistency should be thick enough to hold its shape but smooth enough to eat with a spoon. If too thick, add almond milk one tablespoon at a time. If too thin, add more frozen strawberries or a handful of ice cubes.
  7. Stop and scrape down the sides: Halfway through blending, stop and use a spatula to scrape down the sides to ensure everything is incorporated evenly.
  8. Taste and adjust: Need more sweetness? Add half a date or a tiny drizzle of honey. Want more protein? Add another half scoop of powder.
  9. Pour into your bowl: Use a spatula to scrape every last bit into a bowl. Smooth the top with the back of a spoon.
  10. Add your toppings: Arrange toppings artfully—granola in one spot, fresh fruit in another, coconut flakes scattered around, and a drizzle of almond butter across the top.
  11. Serve immediately: Smoothie bowls start melting the moment they hit the bowl, so enjoy right away.

Notes

The riper the banana, the better—brown spots add natural sweetness and creamy texture. Start with less liquid than you think you need; you can always add more. If your protein powder is very sweet, skip additional sweeteners. For meal prep, portion frozen fruit and dry ingredients into individual bags. The blended base can be frozen for up to 2 weeks; thaw for 10-15 minutes and stir before serving.
