A quick and easy homemade crunchy snack mix made in the air fryer using pantry staples. Perfect for satisfying salty, crispy cravings without the guilt of processed snacks.

  • 1 cup (140g) unsalted mixed nuts (almonds, cashews, pecans)
  • 2 cups (60g) rice or corn Chex cereal (gluten-free if needed)
  • 1 cup (50g) small pretzel twists, roughly broken
  • 1/2 cup (70g) shelled raw sunflower seeds
  • 3 tablespoons (45g) unsalted butter, melted (or dairy-free margarine for vegan option)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper for heat or 1 teaspoon brown sugar for subtle sweetness

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixed nuts, Chex cereal, pretzels, and sunflower seeds. Toss gently to mix.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and optional cayenne or brown sugar.
  4. Pour the seasoning mixture over the dry mix and toss thoroughly to coat each piece evenly.
  5. Transfer the coated mix into the air fryer basket, spreading it out in an even layer.
  6. Cook for 10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  7. Check the mix; if not crunchy enough, cook for an additional 2–3 minutes, shaking again.
  8. Once done, spread the snack mix on a baking sheet or parchment paper to cool completely.
  9. Store in an airtight container once cooled or serve immediately.

Notes

If your air fryer basket is small, cook the mix in two batches to avoid overcrowding. Shake the basket halfway through cooking for even crispiness. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days. Re-toast briefly in the air fryer to refresh crunch if needed. Butter should be warm when mixing to help spices stick better. Oven baking alternative: bake at 325°F (160°C), stirring every 5 minutes for 15-20 minutes.
