This easy crockpot honey garlic chicken is the ultimate set-it-and-forget-it dinner. With just four simple ingredients, you get tender, sticky, golden-brown chicken that tastes better than takeout.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  • ½ cup pure honey
  • ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 6 cloves fresh garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • Optional: sesame seeds, sliced green onions, or fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Place 2 pounds of chicken thighs (or breasts) in the bottom of your crockpot in a single layer.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together ½ cup honey, ½ cup low-sodium soy sauce, and 6 minced garlic cloves until fully incorporated.
  3. Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken. Use tongs to flip each piece so it’s coated on both sides.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. Flip the chicken pieces halfway through cooking.
  5. When the chicken is fork-tender, remove it from the crockpot. Shred with two forks or leave whole.
  6. Optional: Pour the remaining sauce into a small saucepan. Simmer over medium heat for 8-10 minutes until thickened into a syrupy glaze.
  7. Return the chicken to the crockpot or a serving bowl, pour the thickened sauce over it, and toss to coat. Serve immediately over rice, noodles, or vegetables. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.

Notes

For best texture, use chicken thighs. If using frozen chicken, add 1 extra hour to cooking time. To thicken sauce without cornstarch, simmer on stovetop for 10-15 minutes or mash some cooked chicken into the sauce. Leftovers keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and freeze for up to 3 months.
