These Easy Mummy Hot Dog Bites are a fun, simple, and delicious Halloween appetizer made with just four ingredients. Wrapped in flaky crescent dough with mustard eyes, they are a crowd-pleaser that comes together in under 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 count) hot dogs (all-beef recommended)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • Yellow mustard (for eyes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Pat hot dogs dry with a paper towel. Cut each hot dog in half crosswise for bite-sized mummies, or leave whole for full-size.
  3. Unroll crescent dough on a cutting board and press seams together to form a rectangle. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut dough lengthwise into thin strips (1/4 to 1/2 inch wide).
  4. Place a hot dog half at the end of a dough strip and wrap it around, slightly overlapping, leaving a small gap near the top for the face. Do not wrap too tightly. Repeat with remaining hot dogs and dough strips.
  5. Arrange wrapped mummies on the prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.
  6. In a small bowl, beat egg with 1 tablespoon water. Brush egg wash over each mummy.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until dough is golden brown and puffed. Check after 10 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes. Use a toothpick or small knife to dab a tiny amount of mustard onto the exposed hot dog for eyes.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

Keep dough cold for easier handling. Do not overwrap; leave slack for a lumpy mummy look. Use a sharp knife for clean strips. Space mummies apart on the baking sheet. Watch oven closely after 10 minutes to prevent burning. For a spicier version, use spicy hot dogs or sriracha for eyes. For cheesy mummies, stuff a slit in the hot dog with cheese before wrapping. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a 350°F oven for 5 minutes.
