These fluffy ham and Swiss croissant sliders are a quick and delicious weeknight dinner or party appetizer, ready in just 20 minutes. Buttery croissants are filled with savory ham and melty Swiss cheese, then baked with a flavorful poppy seed topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 croissants (day-old works great)
  • 1 pound deli ham, thinly sliced (honey ham or black forest ham)
  • 8 slices Swiss cheese (Gruyère works too)
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (or sesame seeds)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the croissants in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves in a 9×13 baking dish, cut side up.
  3. Mix the 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard and mayonnaise together in a small bowl. Spread this mixture evenly over the bottom halves of the croissants.
  4. Layer the ham evenly over the mustard mixture.
  5. Top with Swiss cheese slices, overlapping slightly.
  6. Place the top halves of the croissants over the cheese. Press down gently.
  7. Make the topping by whisking together the melted butter, remaining 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and brown sugar (if using).
  8. Brush the topping generously over the tops of the croissants. Let it soak in for a minute or two.
  9. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 10 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for another 5-8 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and the edges are crispy.
  11. Let them rest for 2-3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Day-old croissants hold up better and don’t get soggy. For best results, use good-quality croissants from a bakery section. Ask for ham sliced thick at the deli counter (about ⅛ inch thick). Don’t skip the foil step to ensure even heating. Let sliders rest for 2-3 minutes before serving so the cheese sets. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, bake at 350°F for 5-7 minutes covered with foil, or use an air fryer at 350°F for 3 minutes. Assemble and freeze unbaked for up to 2 months; bake from frozen, adding 10-15 minutes.
