A quick and easy savory ground beef recipe made in the Instant Pot, perfect for busy weeknights. This flavorful dish combines simple pantry staples and pressure cooking for a comforting meal in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio recommended)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth (low-sodium)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Optional: ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • Optional: Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Set your Instant Pot to ‘Sauté’ mode. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and heat until shimmering but not smoking, about 1 minute.
  2. Add diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until translucent and fragrant, stirring occasionally.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until aromatic, avoiding browning.
  4. Add ground beef to the pot. Break it up with a spoon and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  5. Mix in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to coat the beef evenly.
  6. Pour in beef broth and scrape the bottom of the pot to release any browned bits.
  7. Seal the Instant Pot lid and set to ‘Pressure Cook’ or ‘Manual’ for 8 minutes with the valve set to sealing.
  8. Once cooking is complete, perform a quick release by turning the valve to venting and waiting for steam to escape.
  9. Open the lid, stir the beef, and taste. Adjust seasoning if needed. For a thicker mixture, switch back to ‘Sauté’ and simmer for a few minutes, stirring frequently.

Notes

Brown beef in batches for deeper flavor if time allows. Use fresh garlic and onion for best aroma. Avoid over-salting early as pressure cooking intensifies flavors. Deglaze the pot after sautéing to prevent burn errors. Optional spice variations include cayenne pepper or cumin for a Mexican twist.
