A bright, fizzy summer drink combining fresh strawberries, tart lemon juice, and sparkling water for a refreshing and nostalgic punch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 34 lemons)
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 3 cups sparkling water, chilled
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Fresh mint leaves (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Place the sliced strawberries in a large mixing bowl or pitcher. Sprinkle the granulated sugar over them and gently toss to coat evenly. Let sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes to macerate and release juices.
  2. While strawberries macerate, juice the lemons to yield about 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice. Strain out any seeds. Optionally zest some lemon peel for garnish.
  3. In a separate container, combine the lemon juice and cold water. Stir until mixed. Adjust sweetness by adding more sugar or honey if desired.
  4. Carefully pour the strawberry mixture, including juices, into the lemonade base. Stir gently to blend flavors without crushing the berries.
  5. Just before serving, slowly add the chilled sparkling water (about 3 cups). Stir very gently to keep the fizz intact.
  6. Serve over ice cubes in tall glasses and garnish with fresh mint leaves or lemon slices if desired.

Notes

Macerate strawberries for at least 10 minutes to release natural juices. Add sparkling water just before serving to keep fizz. Use fresh lemon juice for best flavor. Frozen strawberries can be used if thawed and drained. For lower sugar, substitute sugar with honey or agave syrup. Prepare strawberry mixture and lemonade base ahead but add sparkling water last.
